A method and system for determining a porous rock matrix dielectric permittivity use a matching liquid 210 with a temperature dependant permittivity. The matching liquid may be used in an automated and/or downhole system for measuring matrix dielectric permittivity of formations. A first indicator of a first permittivity of the fluid composition is measured 215, the porous material is saturated with the fluid and a first response indicative of the permittivity of the saturated material is measured 220, 230, a thermodynamic property of the fluid composition is altered changing the fluid permittivity 240 and a second indicator of the fluid permittivity is measured 250, a second response indicative of the permittivity of the saturated material with thermodynamically altered fluid is measured 260, and the first and second indicators and first and second responses are processed to determine the matrix permittivity of the porous material 270. |
