PURPOSE: An apparatus for providing a navigation function in a portable terminal and method thereof are provided to determine course breakaway about moving user in indoor using information determining course breakaway. CONSTITUTION: A course determining unit(102) uses information about space where user moves. The course determining unit determines movement course of a user or course breakaway of the user. A control unit(100) controls the overall operation of a portable terminal. A determination unit provides navigation information based on space information where the user is passed by controlling from the control unit.
