The method involves detecting weight of a reducing agent container (1) containing urea water solution (2), where acquisition of level of the solution in the container is carried out in a stationary car or a movable car. Level of the solution in the container is judged from the weight of the container. The working acceleration forces are determined and filtered if acquisition of level of the solution in the container is carried out in the movable car. The detected level of the solution in the container is displayed to a driver by optical and/or acoustic signals. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for acquisition of level of a urea water solution in a reducing agent container of a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst system (2) a computer program comprising a set of instructions for executing a method for acquisition of level of urea water solution in a reducing agent container of a SCR catalyst system (3) a computer program product with program code, comprising a set of instructions for executing a method for acquisition of level of urea water solution in a reducing agent container of a SCR catalyst system.
