<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for controlling a vehicle that more properly controls to shift gears and generates a desired acceleration. <P>SOLUTION: When an operating speed of an accelerator pedal 20 is faster than a predetermined operating speed, the device controls a gear to be selected upon shifting into a lower side gear than a current gear. Accordingly, when the operating speed of the accelerator pedal 20 is fast, the device can shift a gear which surely achieves a required acceleration, even if an acceleration different from that of a normal operating speed is required.
