PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microbubble generator capable of stably generating fine air bubbles uniform in size. SOLUTION: In the microbubble generator for generating fine air bubbles in a liquid using a nozzle, the nozzle includes a large number of first micropores having the openings opened to one of the surface and back of the nozzle and a large number of second micropores having the openings to the other one of surface and back of the nozzle and the first and second micropores are allowed to communicate with each other. Gas is added to one of the surface and back of the nozzle and a liquid is relatively moved along the other one of the surface and back of the nozzle to separate the air bubbles formed on the other surface of the nozzle by the relatively moved liquid to thereby generate fine air bubbles in the liquid.
