PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance efficiency by retaining air-tightness between a cylinder and a piston. SOLUTION: The reciprocating compressor includes the cylinder, a pair of connecting rods having one end side as a connection part to a rotating shaft and the other end side having a piston 73 reciprocated in the cylinder, a piston ring groove 77 formed on an outer peripheral side of the piston, and a piston ring 13 provided in the piston ring groove. The piston ring includes a mating part 91 allowing the piston ring to reduce or enlarge the diameter, and a C-shaped tension ring 94 having an opening part 94a is attached on an inner peripheral side of the piston ring. The tension ring is arranged in such a manner that the opening part is not overlapped with the mating part so as to seal the mating part of the piston ring, and a rotation regulating means 81 regulating a relative movement of the piston ring and the tension ring to a circumferential direction is provided in a position other than both ends of the tension ring.
