PURPOSE: A power saving mode control method of terminal in packet base communication system and apparatus thereof are provided to reduce power consumption of a terminal by changing a timer of a power saving mode according to a kind of packet transmitted and received by the terminal. CONSTITUTION: A kind of packet that the terminal transmits and receives is analyzed(203). A value of a timer is established according to property of the kind of the analyzed packet(205). A terminal records turnaround time in a source port and another source port where a TCP packet is created(206). The most long time among the registered turnaround time is established a timer value(207). The TCP packet is transmitted to the base station(208).
