PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide certain kinds of trisubstituted aryl and heteroaryl derivatives represented by formula (I) as modulators of metabolism. SOLUTION: There is provided a compound useful in the prophylaxis or treatment of metabolic disorders and complications thereof, such as diabetes and obesity. One aspect of this invention pertains to a pharmaceutical composition containing at least one compound described in the invention and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. One aspect of the invention pertains to a method of decreasing food intake of an individual comprising a step of administering a therapeutically effective amount of the compound or pharmaceutical composition thereof to the individual in need of the method.
