PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which can uniformly and surely join the winding start end and winding finish end of carcass ply to each other and an apparatus for the method. SOLUTION: When the winding start end 3a and the winding finish end 3b of the carcass ply 3 which is wound on the periphery of a molding drum are joined together, a closing roller 14 which contacts the winding start end 3a or the winding finish end 3b and rotates and a contactor 19 which contacts the winding start end 3a or the winding finish end 3b and detects that the distance between the winding start end 3a and the winding finish end 3b is a prescribed value or below are provided. When the contactor 19 contacts one end (the winding start end 3a or the winding finish end 3b), while the direction of the rotary shaft of the closing roller 14 is slanted to be close to the circumferential direction of the molding drum, the winding start end 3a and the winding finish end 3b are joined together by using a pressing roller 20.
