PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an edge replaceable slotting tool which sufficiently secures machining accuracy even when a workpiece is slotted in the end surface along the peripheral surface thereof without increasing the number of components of a cutting insert, and also provide a method for slotting in an end surface. SOLUTION: A cutting insert 30 is formed rotationally symmetric with respect to an insert height axis C3 which extends through the center of the insert body 31 in the extending direction and through the lateral center thereof perpendicular to the extending direction and which is orthogonal to the extending and lateral directions, and planarly symmetric with respect to an insert virtual plane VS1 which includes the insert height axis C3 and is vertical to the extending direction. The longitudinal axis C1 of the insert is tilted relative to a virtual tool plane VS3 including at least any of the pair of corner parts and the rotating axis WO of the one cutting blade 32A, and extends so as to gradually approach the tool virtual plane VS3 toward the one extending direction C1A.
