The invention relates to a laser welding device for laser welding flat materials having a contact surface (1a), a pneumatic pressing device (3) and a laser (2). The pressing device (3) according to the invention comprises a pressing head (5) having a main body (6) in which a pressure chamber (7) is designed which is connected on the inlet side to a compressed air source (4) and on the outlet side to at least one air outlet opening (10) on the underside of the main body (6). The pressing head (5) can be positioned on the contact surface (1a) and freely movably guided toward and away from the contact surface (1a) so that it lifts off from said contact surface (1a) after positioning on the layers of the material to be welded lying on the contact surface (1a) upon escape of air out of the air outlet opening (10) forming a gap. The pressing head (5) is designed so that a laser beam (L) output from the laser (2) hits the pressing head (5) on the welding region.
