The separator (20) has a hollow cylinder-shaped detour element comprising a cavity divided by a partition wall, where fuel vapor enters into one cavity-half at a final side via an entry port (4) and discharges in a motor car tank neck (1). The fuel vapor flows in another cavity-half of the detour element, where the vapor is discharged to an intermediate storage during operation of a motor car. An outer surface of a suction opening (5) of the former cavity-half lies in the detour element. Another entry port of the latter cavity-half lies in a front wall projecting away from the tank neck.
