PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively raise a water temperature at a hot water supply circuit side while minimizing consumption of energy. SOLUTION: In the water heater, hot water/water stored in a bathtub 100 is circulated in a circulation passage 31 to exchange heat between the hot water/water and water supplied through a water passage 11. Thus the heat of the hot water/water is transferred to the water in the water passage 11 to preheat the water, when the hot water remains after the heated hot water/water is stored in the bathtub 100 and used. As the water in the water passage 11 is preheated by the heat of the hot water/water after use, and then heated by a combustion gas generated from a gas burner 15, energy consumption necessary for increasing the water temperature can be suppressed.
