The method involves providing a substrate (1a) of a photovoltaic cell (100) with a layer sequence comprising a photoactive layer stack (3b), where the stack comprises a p-doped layer (31b), an intrinsic layer (32b) and an n-doped layer (33b). The n-doped layer is provided with two regions (5a, 5b) with different oxygen concentration. A back contact (4) is applied on one of the regions of the n-doped layer, where one of the regions has a homogeneous thickness. Controlled ventilation is produced in an intermediate memory.
