PROCESS FOR PRODUCING SURFACE-TREATED METAL OXIDE POWDER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a surface-treated metal oxide powder by which agglomerated by-products originated from aminoalkylalkoxysilane is controlled in producing a surface-treated metal oxide surface-treated with aminoalkylalkoxysilane and hexamethyldisilazane. SOLUTION: The production process for the surface-treated metal oxide powder by which agglomerated by-products originated from aminoalkylalkoxysilane is controlled includes adding non-diluted aminoalkylalkoxysilane to a metal oxide powder produced by a dry process. During this process the amount of aminoalkylalkoxysilane added is adjusted depending on the specific surface area of the metal oxide powder as appropriate, and the temperature of the metal oxide powder is maintained at 205-245°C. The surface-treated metal oxide powder tends to be positively charged and is very useful as an external additive for toner resin powders which need to be positively charged.
