<p>Disclosed is a cutting insert having excellent chip-discharging properties. In the cutting insert, the bottom surface of a groove (21) has: a first bottom surface (211) connected to a cutting edge section (5); and a second bottom surface (212) that is on the far side of the first bottom surface (211) from the cutting edge section (5) and that is at a lower position than an imaginary line (L1) of extension of the end section of the first bottom surface (211) on the side farther from the cutting edge section (5). Furthermore, in a plan view, a pair of sloped surfaces (23) is positioned further from the cutting edge section (5) than the end section of the first bottom surface (211) on the far side from the cutting edge section (5). Consequently, the curl diameter of chips becomes smaller by means of generated chips curling while sinking into the space formed below the imaginary line (L1) of extension of the first bottom surface (211). As a result, the discharge direction of the chips becomes stable, and the discharge properties of chips become favorable.</p> |
