摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cemented carbide insert which exhibits superior chipping resistance and wear resistance in the heavy cutting of steel and cast iron at high speeds. SOLUTION: This surface-coated cemented carbide insert is formed by evaporating a hard coating layer on a base which is made of a WC-based cemented carbide obtained by forming and sintering a compound material containing, as a material, at least WC powder, Co powder, and either ZrC powder and/or ZrCN powder. A Co-enriched surface area with an averaged thickness of 5-35μm is formed on the surface of the substrate of the WC-based cemented carbide. The Co content and Zr content of the base edge part of the WC-based cemented carbide are 0.80-0.95 (by mass ratio) of the Co content in the cemented carbide and 1.10-1.45 (by mass ratio) of the Zr content therein, respectively.
