<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that, in order to stably converge random noises when measuring patches with a sensor nearly zero, it is necessary to take a longer measurement time, therefore, the time for measuring the whole patch chart is prolonged, further, when measuring the patch chart while scanning the patch chart with the sensor, the measurement time per one patch should be adjusted to a period in which the darkest patch can be stably measured and, as the result, the total measurement time for measuring all the patch charts becomes longer. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing system determines patch length every patch respectively such that the length of a patch having a lower optical density becomes shorter and the length of a patch having a higher optical density becomes longer, and produces patch data. In addition, when positional information of the patch is inputted and the measurement is performed by using a sensor that performs the measurement while making the scanning speed constant, the control of the sensor is performed by using the positional information.
