PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that a loss in a diode cannot be removed since a reflux current from a load flows through a reflux diode in timing when a uni-directional device is employed as a semiconductor device for an inverter etc. SOLUTION: A gate drive device comprises a first gate terminal 2, a second gate terminal 3, a drain terminal 4, and a source terminal 5. It uses a bidirectional switch 1 which has four operation modes by turning on/off the first gate terminal 2 and the second gate terminal 3. Since a synchronous control means is arranged in which the first gate terminal 2 and the second gate terminal 3 are driven so as to draw the current in the third mode according to timing that the reflux current flows, it is possible to remove the loss by the reflux diode, and the drive method of the bidirectional switch is provided which can provide the inverter whose loss is small and whose efficiency is favorable.
