PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safe method ensuring effective control of various diseases encountered during cultivation of agricultural and horticultural crops. SOLUTION: The disease controlling method comprises soil irrigation with a fungicide or seed treatment with a fungicide, provided that the fungicide comprises at least one chosen from a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound represented by formula (I), (II), (III) or (IV) or a salt thereof, such as 1-(5-bromopyridin-3-yl)-3,3-dimethyl-3,4-dihydroisoquinoline, 1-(5-ethylpyridin-3-yl)-3,3-dimethyl-3,4-dihydroisoquinoline, 2,2-dimethyl-4-(3-quinolyl)-2H-1,3-benzothiazine, 3-(3,3-dimethylisochroman-1-yl)-quinoline and (2-bromophenyl)-3-quinolinyl-methanone O-methyloxime, as an active ingredient.
