The invention relates to a high pressure discharge lamp having a discharge vessel. A discharge chamber is designed therein, wherein two electrodes spaced apart from each other extend into the discharge chamber to generate a gas discharge. The discharge vessel is surrounded at least in sections by an outer bulb. A filling gas is introduced as an ignition aid into a gas-tight outer chamber, limited at least by the discharge vessel and the outer bulb. In addition, the discharge vessel has an electrically conductive ignition aid layer.
