819,413. Brazing. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE CHARLEROI. Nov. 4, 1957 [Nov. 13, 1956], No. 34319/57. Class 83 (4). In butt brazing parts 1, 6 of different sizes, the part 1 of larger cross-section and of greater thermal capacity is heated by direct contact with incandescent electrodes 2, 3 and the part 6 of low thermal capacity, small cross-section and relatively large surface area is heated partly by radiation from the electrodes. A commutator segment 1 is clamped between two graphite electrodes 2, 3 and a strip 6 is held in contact with the segment with a piece of brazing alloy 7 adjacent the joint. A current is passed through the electrodes which become incandescent and heat the segment and, by radiation, the strip so that the alloy 7 melts to provide a brazed joint. A smaller electrode contact surface formed on a projection is shown. A thin-walled tube may be brazed to a thick-walled tube by using a slightly conical central core electrode and a slightly conical annular electrode so that a crosssection of the tubes appears approximately as in the Figure. The electrodes may be formed of several parts. |
