A smoothed-current calculating device that calculates a smoothed current of a secondary battery (301) has digital low-pass filters (22 to 27) to which a measured digital current value generated by digitizing a measured current value of the secondary battery is supplied. The digital low-pass filters output smoothed digital current values generated by smoothing time variations in the measured digital current value. A current-variation-level setting unit (S1) compares differences between the measured digital current value and the smoothed digital current values with a threshold, and sets current variation levels on the basis of the results of the comparison. A filter-factor setting unit (S2) sets filter factors of the digital low-pass filters in accordance with the set current variation levels.
