<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power supply device which can more effectively reduce power loss by controlling the charging of a secondary battery in consideration of the power conversion efficiency and the charging efficiency of the secondary battery. <P>SOLUTION: The secondary battery 4 is built in, and the advantages and disadvantages of using the secondary battery is calculated dynamically from the power conversion efficiency of an AC/DC converter 3 or the charging efficiency of the secondary battery 4. When power loss due to charging of the secondary battery 4 exceeds a reduction in power consumption by improving the power conversion efficiency, power is supplied to a load from the AC/DC converter 3 and the secondary battery 4 is charged. After the secondary battery 4 is charged, the AC/DC converter 3 is stopped and power is supplied to the load from the secondary battery 4.
