PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain a swirl flow from being attenuated, to generate great turbulence of an air-fuel mixture in a cylinder to promote combustion, and to enhance fuel consumption, in an engine of a high expansion ratio cycle. SOLUTION: The intake device 10 for the engine 1 includes the first intake passage 11 for supplying air into the cylinder 2, the second intake passage 12 arranged juxtaposedly to the first intake passage 11, and for supplying air into the cylinder 2, the first intake valve 13 for opening and closing the first intake passage 11 in an opening part of the first intake passage 11, the second intake valve 14 for opening and closing the second intake passage 12 in an opening part of the second intake passage 12, and a movable valve gear 18 for making variable valve opening timing of the second intake valve 14, and the movable valve gear 18 lags the valve opening timing of the second intake valve 14, when operated to restrain the fuel consumption, to blow the air-fuel mixture sucked into the cylinder 2 back to the second intake passage 12 during a compression stroke, and regulates the valve opening timing to open fully the second intake valve 14 when starting the blow-back.
