<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To data-compress read data from a storage device without generating the deterioration of data accuracy by data compressing and storing image data in the storage device. <P>SOLUTION: An image data processor 1 includes an image processing portion 11 and a compression/decompression portion 14. The image processing portion 11 executes the image processing of stored image data of a storage device 2, stores the image data output to a display device 3 in the storage device 2 after the image processing. The compression/decompression portion 14 compressing-processes the image data by a writing operation to the storage device 2. The compression/decompression portion 14 decompressing-processes the image data by a reading operation from the storage device 2. The compression/decompression portion 14 generates the compression data of upper bits by run length compressing the upper bits of the image data, and generates image compression data by combining with the non-compressed data of the lower bits of the image data.
