PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric double-layer capacitor wherein a binder resin for use in the electric double-layer capacitor is excellent in adhesion to a collector and active material, and also low swelling characteristics to electrolyte, an electric capacity is large as the electric double-layer capacitor, an internal resistance is small, a cycle characteristics is excellent, and durability at a specifically high temperature is excellent, and also to provide a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The electric double-layer capacitor is equipped with: a negative electrode having at least a carbon material as a negative electrode active material and the binder resin; a positive electrode having at least the carbon material as a positive electrode active material and the binder resin; and a nonaqueous electrolyte. In the electric double-layer capacitor, the binder resin is a polyimide resin in which polyalkylene glycol and/or polyalkylene ether diamine are copolymerized, and whose logarithmic viscosity is 0.3 dl/g or more, and the binder resin contains metal oxide of 1-50 wt.%.
