[Also in Group XXXII] A self-propelled load-carrying truck movable on circular tracks 22, Figs. 1 and 2, e.g. around an atomic reactor, or on straight tracks 21 extending radially from the reactor and intersecting the tracks 22, comprises a chassis 1 provided with a pair of parallel axles 5a, 5b for wheels 10 engageable with the tracks 21 and a pair of converging axles 7a, 7b for wheels 26 engageable with the tracks 22, the axles 5b and 7a each having associated therewith a drive motor, the axles 5a, 5b also being provided with screwjacks 14 for raising and lowering those axles relative to the axles 7a, 7b, and detecting means in the form of rollers 19, 20, respectively, carried by arms 17, 18 pivoted to the chassis, which rollers detect the presence of a track perpendicular to the track over which the truck is moving and cause the truck to stop in a position in which the inoperative wheels are in alignment with the detected track. The screw jacks 14 are engaged by nuts driven by worm gears on a shaft at each end of the truck, driven from a single shaft 15 and a motor (not shown). The axles 7a, 7b are resiliently mounted on the chassis, the axle 7a being driven from a motor 25 and reduction gear 11. The axle 7a can also be driven by an inching motor 12 during which time the motor 25 will rotate idly. Similar inching motors are provided for the motors driving the jacks and the shaft 5b and the motors are all controlled from a desk 9 on the chassis. In operation with the truck running, e.g. on a circular track 22, the driver stops the truck close to the intersection of the track 22 with a radial track 21, releases the associated arm 17 which is then spring-urged towards the ground so that the roller 19 bears thereon. Thereafter the inching motor 12 is operated and the roller 19 eventually drops into the bottom of a rail 21 whereby the arm operates a switch 23 in the supply circuit of the motor 12 and the latter stops. The jacks 14 are then operated to lower the wheels 10 relative to the axles 7a, 7b and to engage the track 21. A similar switch 24 is provided for the arm 18 and the inching motor for the axle 5b. The load is carried on a pivoted table 3 which is aligned with the track. Indicators 16 are provided on the jacks 14 associated with the axles 5b, to indicate the height of the chassis above the ground.
