The process involves submitting an image stabilization system to rotation vibratory movements around two distinct rotation axes (X, Y), and measuring characteristics of the vibratory movements. Stored successive positions are supplied as setpoint position values. The vibratory movements of the system are slaved to the setpoint position values based on the measured characteristics, where the characteristics comprise instantaneous linear positions and accelerations, and instantaneous angular positions and angular speeds around the rotation axes. An independent claim is also included for a system for stabilizing an image capture apparatus, comprising an image capture apparatus holder for holding an image capture apparatus.
