ESD PROTECTION DEVICE AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF

An ESD protection device whose ESD characteristics are easily adjusted and stabilized and a method for manufacturing the ESD protection device are provided. An ESD protection device 10 includes (a) an insulating substrate 12, (b) a cavity 13 formed in the insulating substrate 12, (c) at least a pair of discharge electrodes 16 and 18 each including a portion exposed in the cavity 13, the exposed portions facing each other, and (d) external electrodes 22 and 24 formed on a surface of the insulating substrate 12 and connected to the discharge electrodes 16 and 18. A particulate supporting electrode material 30 with conductivity is dispersed between the exposed portions of the discharge electrodes 16 and 18 in the cavity 13.
