PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for protecting the over discharge of a battery of a vehicle black box system are provided to prevent the starting failure of a vehicle due to the discharge of a battery. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for protecting the over discharge of a battery of a vehicle black box system comprises a battery(10), a DC/DC converter(12), an over-discharge sensor(14), longitudinal motion sensors(16), lateral motion sensors(18), a motion lever converter(20), an impact sensor(22), an A/D converter(24), an image storage unit(36), and a power supply control unit(32). The battery supplies power to a vehicle. The DC/DC converter converts the supplied power into multiple power levels and outputs the power levels. The over-discharge sensor senses the state of the outputted power levels. The longitudinal and lateral motion sensors are installed in the front, rear, left, and right of the vehicle and sense objects adjacent to the vehicle. The motion level converter receives the sensed signal and converts the signal into a digital signal. The impact sensor senses impact applied to the vehicle. The A/D converter receives the impact sensed signal and converts the signal into a digital signal. The image storage unit stores image signals photographed from a camera.
