Class 9(2) [Also in Group XXV] A cargo release hook 11, Fig. 2, for supporting a load under the fuselage of a helicopter, is suspended from the fuselage by cables 12 and comprises a hook part 17 pivoted at 21 between the body sides 28. Fig. 3, and held in closed position by a latch 24 pivoted at 25 and urged to release part 17 by a spring 33. The latch is held against spring 33 by a roller 38 on a lever 36 pivoted to the body on an axle 37. The lever may be raised to release the latch manually by pulling a cable 18 from a remote position, or by turning lever 71 provided outside the body on axle 37, or by energizing a rotary electromagnet 41 to turn lever 43 clockwise and raise the lever 36 via a link 44. The electromagnet may be energized from a remote position, e.g. a button on the pilot's control column, or by a switch 63 which is closed via lever 60, rod 58, and the end 57 of part 17 when the load becomes supported on the ground. The end 57 is urged upwardly by a spring 56. As soon as the electro-magnet raises the lever 36 the switch 49 is opened to de-energize the magnet and prevent damage thereto. The electrical leads are carried by a sleeve 19, and a priming switch may be included in the electrical circuit and left open until near the time of operation of the hook. In a modification, the lever 36 is connected through a pivoted link with the end of the latch.</p> |
