PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing a gearbox for a vertical axis wind turbine is provided to minimize the resistance and maximize the torque when transmitting power from a gearbox to a generator in a vertical axis wind turbine. CONSTITUTION: A method for manufacturing a gearbox for a vertical axis wind turbine is as follows. A housing with openable top is prepared(S100). The top of the housing is opened and a plurality of rotary shafts axially coupled with one or more spur gears are installed inside the housing, wherein the spur gear coupled with a rotary shaft is engaged with the spur gear coupled with another rotary shaft, one of the rotary shafts protrudes from the top of the housing, and another one of the rotary shafts protrudes from the bottom of the housing(S200). The top of the housing is closed and lubricating oil is injected into the housing(S300).
