PURPOSE: An image processing apparatus and method thereof are provided to prevent a feature vector from being easily changed against the brightness change of an image. CONSTITUTION: A quantization unit(120) performs the quantization of a gray image(110). A filter unit(130) performs filtering for each pixel. A grouping unit(140) groups indexes on a horizontal axis of a histogram corresponding to a filtered gray image. A feature detection unit(150) obtains the characteristic information of the inputted gray image for quantization.
