Disclosed is the use of a hydroxybenzoic acid ester and its analogues as set forth in Formula (I), and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts or solvates thereof: wherein R is an alkyl group; R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 are independently OH or H; and at least one of which is OH; but salicylic acid ester is excluded; in the manufacture of a medicament or the prevention or treatment of a HPV virus infection in a human or animal, wherein the hydroxybenzoic acid ester and its analogues are used as a sole medicament.
