The method involves placing a wood core (2) at an inner side of a hollow body (1) by utilizing an opened end of the hollow body, where the length of the wood core is equal to the length of the hollow body. Fibers of wood are directed in a length direction of the wood core. The hollow body is made of aluminum or sheet steel. The wood core has a cross section that is equal to that of the hollow body. The nature of wood in the wood core is selected according to mechanical characteristics of the hollow body. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle.
