Disclosed is a lyophilized solid composition of taxane, comprising: a) a taxane, b) a tensoactive, c) a lyophilization excipient, and d) an acid, wherein the composition is essentially free from organic solvent and is suitable for the preparation of pharmaceutical formulations for mammals, in particular humans. Also disclosed is the process for preparing the lyophilized taxane composition, a pharmaceutical formulation comprising the lyophilized taxane composition and a kit that contains the lyophilized taxane.
