Disclosed is a process for preparing a octahydrocyclopenta[c]pyrrole of Formula 3 wherein R1 and R2 are defined in the specification comprising the step of carboxylation of an azabicyclooctane of formula 6, wherein R' is alkyl, to give a racemic mixture of cis- and trans- octahydrocyclopenta[c]pyrrole-1- carboxylic acids of formula 7.
