An arrangement for mounting at last one tidal turbine (l) and its associated support structures (4) in a river or sea bed is disclosed. The arrangement is characterised by mounting the turbine (1) and associated support structures (4) upon a base/foundation structure (16) of such weight as to involve gravitational forces of such magnitude as to be sufficient to withstand forces acting in such manner as to tend to displace the turbine (1) and its associated support structures (4, 16). The base/foundation structure is pre-assembled then transported to the required location. Conveniently the transportation is by means of an installation vessel incorporating a facility for lowering the entire assembly of the turbine (1), a support column (4) therefore, and the base/foundation structure (16) in a controlled manner to rest at a desired position on the river or sea bed (SB). The arrangement is made to conform to the sea bed by pumping grout into expandable members (19) under the base/foundation structure (16), allowing any discrepancy between the seabed and a level surface to be filled and allowing the arrangement to be placed without prior levelling of the sea bed.
