Process for producing lactamide compounds, new lactamine compounds and formulations containing lactamide compounds

Disclosed is the use of a compound of formula (I), which is CH3CH(OH)C(=O)NR1R2, and where R1 and R2 are each independently hydrogen, C1-6 alkyl, C2-6 alkenyl or C3-6 cycloalkyl, to reduce the mammalian toxicity of another component by combining both in a formulation. Also disclosed are compound of formula (I) as defined above, and methods of synthesising them.
