The device (1) has a drive unit driving an axle (26) carrying a forward gear ratio control yoke (24) in first position and formed of a locking hook (18) locking a drive pin (19) sliding in an oblong recess (19a). A disengagement unit returns the drive unit to its initial position after selection of the gear ratio in closed position or shifts a reverse gear ratio of the gearbox without driving the axle in open position. The disengagement unit has a retractable finger (27) stopped against a locking tab (30) integrated to a passage finger (5) during driving of the axle to second position.
