Disclosed herein is the use of a tiotropium salt, as depicted by a compound of formula 1, where X- is an anion with a single negative charge selected from chloride, bromide, iodide, sulphate, phosphate, methanesulphonate, nitrate, maleate, acetate, citrate, fumarate, tartrate, oxalate, succinate, benzoate and p-toluenesulphonate, optionally in the form of a hydrate and/or a solvate thereof, in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of a patient suffering from severe persistent asthma despite combined treatment with inhaled corticosteroids and long-acting beta-2-agonists. |
