<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve focus detecting accuracy by reducing noise of a signal of a focus detecting pixel, in an image capturing device having a section of pixels as the focus-detecting pixel. <P>SOLUTION: The image capturing apparatus includes the imaging device which has image capturing pixel groups, receiving light passing through all the pupil area of a photographic lens that forms a subject image, and the focus detecting pixel groups arranged discretely between the image capturing pixel groups, and receiving the light passing through the sectional pupil area of the photographic lens; a detection section which detects a direction of the edge of a subject based on an image signal obtained from the image capturing device; an addition averaging section which performs addition averaging by shifting a phase of an image signal obtained from each pixel in the focus detecting pixel group, based on the direction of the edge detected by the detection section; and an arithmetic section which calculates a defocus amount of the photographic lens, by using the image signal subjected to the addition averaging by the addition averaging section. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
