PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus configured to stably prevent smeared image, and also, sufficiently have durability of an image carrier. SOLUTION: A rubbing member 71 for rubbing the surface of the image carrier 1 is provided downstream of a cleaning means 6, which removes developer remaining on the surface of the image carrier 1, in the moving direction of the image carrier 1. The rubbing member 71 includes: small pressure parts having small pressure upon bringing the rubbing member 71 in contact with a uniformly flat surface and strong pressure parts having pressure stronger than the small pressure parts, alternately, in the longitudinal direction of the rubbing member 71, and the rubbing member 71 reciprocatingly moves in the longitudinal direction when the rubbing member 71 comes in contact with the image carrier 1.
