PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a sulfonium compound in high yield. SOLUTION: The method for producing the sulfonium compound represented by formula (3) includes reacting an enol derivative represented by formula (1) with a sulfoxide derivative represented by formula (2) in the presence of an activating agent capable of improving electrophilicity of a sulfur atom in a sulfoxide group of the sulfoxide derivative, and a basic compound.
