PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the defective conveyance of recording paper by paper feed rollers in a printer having a delivery mechanism by a simple configuration. SOLUTION: In this paper roll printer 1, whether the tension of recording paper 8a reaches predetermined set tension or not is monitored based on an output of a sensor 24 for detecting a position of a tension guide 19 during the conveyance of the recording paper by a pair of the paper feed rollers 26 (ST4), and when the sensor 24 is turned on, a delivery operation for the recording paper is performed by a pair of delivery rollers 25. A feed amount of paper from the beginning of the conveyance of the recording paper 8a by the pair of paper feed rollers 26 is monitored by counting the quantity of drive steps of a paper feed motor 32 (ST3), and when the sensor 24 is not turned off even if the paper is fed by a predetermined amount, it is determined that the defective conveyance of paper by the pair of paper feed rollers 26 has occurred (ST4, ST7).
