The device has an evaluation unit (6) monitoring a parasitic capacitance between an electrical controllable winding of an electric motor (2) and a partially conductive housing (22). The evaluation unit detects a frequency of a series oscillating circuit, and an indication of a characteristic frequency of a motor current. The evaluation unit draws the penetrated fluid based on alteration of the characteristic frequency. The evaluation unit recognizes penetrated fluid based on recognized alteration of the parasitic capacitance. An independent claim is also included for a method for recognizing fluid penetrated into a housing of an electric machine.
