<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection display device capable of displaying a good image quality by efficiently reducing scintillation. <P>SOLUTION: The projection display device includes: an illumination optical system 4 that guides coherent light emitted from a light source to a screen 33 side by making the light propagate into a predetermined optical path; an optical modulation element 2 that forms an image in an image forming area 2a by modulating the light guided by the illumination optical system 4, and emits image light of the formed image; and a projection optical system 3 that enlarges and projects the image light emitted from the image forming area 2a onto the screen 33. In the illumination optical system 4, a diffusion element 5 arranged near a conjugate position to the image forming area 2a and diffusing the light from the light source, and a driving part 51 changing the position of the diffusion element 5 to change a diffusion angle by the diffusion element 5 and to change a phase difference of emitted light between adjacent pixels in the optical modulation element 2 so that change width may be equal to or more than one wavelength are arranged. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
