<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem: in order to encode data using EXI according to the data type, an encoding rule must be created from a schema of a document or a partial schema, the schema defining the overall grammar of XML data, and including descriptions irrelevant to each XML data, consequently, to create an encoding rule from a schema, much processing time and a large memory size are required. <P>SOLUTION: An encoding rule is not generated from a schema. Instead, a learning range of the encoding rule is designated and, when there is no learned encoding rule at a structural position of the XML data input, an encoding rules is learned according to a type of input data in the designed range.
