Disclosed is a rotation drive device configured by comprising a plurality of rotation units each of which changes, by means of a fluid cylinder, the radial position of a weight with respect to the rotational axis, thereby obtaining a rotational force. A task associated with said rotation drive device is that, while decreasing the stroke and the output of the fluid cylinder, an increase is made in the rotational moment exerted on the rotational axis by the weight in each rotation unit, resulting in a large rotational force being obtained. Each rotation unit (20) in the rotation drive device (10) comprises a swing arm (23) which is supported in such a way as to be swingable about a swing center axis (23A) provided in a support block (22). A weight (24) is provided at that position of the swing arm (23) where the length of the distance from the swing center axis (23A) of the swing arm (23) is longer. A connection point for the fluid cylinder (25) is provided at that position of the swing arm (23) where the length of the distance from the swing center axis (23A) of the swing arm (23) is shorter. The swing arm (23) is made capable of swinging about the swing center axis (23A) provided in the support block (22), only by a certain angle on the side which is one of the areas on both sides of a neutral position located on a plane intersecting with the rotational axis (13) and which is subject to the exertion of gravity acting on the weight. |
